In this unit, participation in class discussion is CRUCIAL. Energetic and thoughtful commentary is going to be the backbone of this unit. Every class you should prove to me that you have read and considered the submissions. Come to class prepared to have constructive ideas about how to improve their draft and where the most compelling parts are.
Line edit and comment in the margins of the draft. Write global comments in the white space at the end or on a new sheet of paper. I will take up your edits on the workshop stories on unannounced days– this will not be a completion grade; you will be graded on how thorough and insightful your edits are.
We have practiced all semester on what makes effective and interesting writing– This unit you’ll show me what you’ve learned not only as writers, but also as editors.

Bring your Grassroots book. Read “The Emergency,” “Pieces,” and “What’s Left.” Make comments and line notes. Be prepared to discuss in class for our mock workshop.
